From the Alberta Whitewater Association: "Hi Paddlers, Kananaskis Country will be closed for the next 6 days, all roads, all trails, all rivers and all camping will be shutdown so the Parks people can concentrate on the disaster cleanup. All roads into the Park will be barricaded and manned. But for those of you willing to volunteer some time over the next 2 days we have an opportunity to go down to Canoe Meadows and start the cleanup of the gates, wires and shoreline at this site. This will get our river opened as soon as possible so that we can resume paddling. When you come to the barricade, tell them that you are with the AWA (Alberta Whitewater Association) and that you are there to work at Canoe Meadows on the river cleanup. That should get you through the gates and you can join us at the Canoe Meadows parking lot. Do not bring your boats or boards. You will not be allowed to boat on the river. I will need a small team to go across the river to disconnect wires. I will also need a couple of rafts to ferry the debris down to the takeout. If you are coming please bring gloves, a knife and wire cutters. If you have a truck, axe, swedesaw, chainsaw or other equipment that might be useful please bring that as well. We will meet at 10:00 am both Friday and Saturday at the Parking lot to start work. If you come later, you can walk down to the river to join us, the biggest crew will be at Miami but as the day progresses and we get the remaining wires fixed/taken down at Miami, we will work on the putin and takeout and points in between. Thanks Everyone, Chuck Lee 403-628-2336 / c 403-632-9598"
