From the BCA Eagle Band Directior, Trae Cummings: Saturday - TopicsExpress

From the BCA Eagle Band Directior, Trae Cummings: Saturday night I took my kids out to march in The Krewe of Isis Parade. Not only was this the last scheduled parade of the year for us, it was also a potentially huge, and much needed, fundraiser for us. In addition to the payment contracted to the BCA Eagle Band for participating in the parade, I also blindly entered the Rhythm on the Route competition. It seemed like a great idea, but entering as a middle school seemed a bit risky. There was no cost for entering so I thought why not. I have a great bunch of kids. The odds were stacked against us in every other way though. I mean, we only get to rehearse twice per week and after school on Wednesdays just over an hour per rehearsal. To put them through a 7+ mile parade and an 8 hour evolution seemed to be a bit much. But these children and their parents rose to the occasion. EVEN AFTER I TOLD THEM THAT WE ENTERED THE COMPETITION AS THE ONLY MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND!!! At first, I got a few less than confident looks. But they seemed to believe me, when I said that WE COULD DO THIS! Though it didnt help that we had to follow the Marine Band I have to admit. That caused me to panic a little bit. In the end, my little middle school band came home with the 3rd place trophy and an extra $1000 for our program, beating out at least 2 other high school bands! Before we got back on the bus to head home, I gathered all of the kids and the parents to let them know how proud of them I was... and that I have NEVER been more proud of 3rd place in my life than I was at that moment WAY TO GO BCA EAGLE BAND!!!
