From the Book of 2nd Samuel....... A King For Israel After Sauls death the men of Judah heralded David as their king, anointing him at Hebron, the capital of Judah (2nd Samuel 2).David ruled there for 7 years. After Sauls son Ishbosheth had died the remaining tribes came to Hebron to anoint David as king over all of Israel. Shortly thereafter David conquered Jerusalem, the Jebusite stronghold, and began calling it the City of David. He constructed a royal palace there and started planning the first temple. Davids kingdom stretched from the borders of Egypt in the south to Lebanon in the north and bordered the Mediterranean Sea on the west and the Euphrates River on the east (2nd Samuel 8:1-15). Under Davids rule the kingdom finally reached all the way to the borders of the land God had promised his people (Look at Joshua 1:3-4). Davids life foreshadowed what Jesus would do for Gods people. In fact the angel who appeared when Jesus was born announced, He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David (Luke 1:32).
