From the Daily Rant: Sunday evening past the news program 60 Minutes aired a segment on one of the absolute worst-kept secrets of ongoing and flagrant Congressional corruption Inside the Beltway. But despite the -- what should have been -- bombshell revelations the major news websites (conservative and liberal alike) and the media treated the 60 Minutes expose like a leaf falling on a bed of lush moss in a virgin forest. That is, except for Breitbarts Big Journalism and mychal-massie/premium/ . The expose featured the Government Accountability Institute (GAI) President and Senior News Editor-at-Large Peter Schweizer exposing how lawmakers have subverted legislation intended to prevent them from converting campaign donations into lavish lifestyle upgrades for themselves and their family members. Breitbart reported that top CBS executives believed the report to be so explosive that not only did they make it the programs lead story but they chose that Sunday evening so as to capture [the] much larger NFL-viewing audience. The report featured explosive revelations from Schweizers forthcoming book, Extortion: How Politicians Extract Your Money, Buy Votes, and Line Their Own Pockets. The segment showed Steve Kroft of 60 Minutes traversing congressional offices and office buildings trying to interview Congressmen on both sides of the aisle, male and female. Watching those that he was successfully able to get on screen was like watching elephants waltz on ice. This isnt news for those of us familiar with what goes on in Washington. But for those of you who still believe in the idea of Republicans good and honest, Democrats evil and corrupt might as well believe in the tooth fairy (and Im not talking a certain charade with nicotine-stained teeth who likes to play golf on tax-payer money). But the point I want to make is that unless I missed it none of the top news sites carried a peep about the program. What makes it worse is that the media is fully aware of this culture of corruption, and they refuse to report it, and those such as myself who have discussed this in the past have been ridiculed. In the meanwhile, Americans continue to donate money on a massive scale, while a significant portion of the donations go to support lavish congressional lifestyles. The donations are tantamount to congressional ATMs. This is the same media who has refused to report on the Bikers, Truckers and Veterans, who, combined led some two million people into D.C. to protest. This is the same media who runs around-the-clock reporting the moment they can exploit anything remotely tangential to white racism while ignoring every vestige of black racism. Tell me why conservatives are supporting Republicans who are cashing in on our misfortune? I repeat what I have been saying for many years. Republicans and Democrats are two sides of the same corrupt coin, and unless conservatives wake up and realize that we will be stuck with the feckless pretenders such as John Boehner, et al.
