From the Desk of Vetress Boyce, Candidate for Alderman 24th Ward on Christmas Day. The greatest investment that I ever made in my life was the time, focus, dedication, commitment, dollars, sweat, tears and love that I put into myself. The first law of nature is Self Preservation. When you can do all things exceedingly and beyond for yourself, then you can take that same energy and put it into other people, work, assignments, projects, plans, objective, goals, meetings, tasks, loving people, caring, sharing, giving and most of all LIVING. A persons biggest investment is into themselves because YOU believe in YOU. When you believe and trust in yourself then others will automatically attract to that trait. Stop letting the world tell you that you were born of a filthy rag and from the bottom of the pit because if you adapt to that way of thinking then that is what you will become. Id like to use this Aldermanic Election for the 24th Ward as a token of example in believing in self. I didnt come into politics like most that are running. I couldnt stand on the shoulders of my parents, I couldnt declare an organizational name to lift my creditability, I couldnt name drop for popularity sake, I couldnt declare to have written or received mega grants to service people. Because of what I didnt have, I had to use what I did have and thats confidence mirrored with 25 years of Executive Business Experience, many years of Real Estate Construction and Development experience and just being myself. In anything you do and if youre serious about it, you have to invest in yourself. I took 5 years to get out and learn the political process. I took the time to assist with creating a non profit organization (Greater Lawndale Black Chamber of Commerce). I became obsessively active in learning the Governmental construction trade industry on all levels, City, County and Federal. I made it my business to work with almost every elected official governing in the 24th Ward. I made myself know to every Elected Official possible by utilizing their services to create business opportunities for business owners. Corporate America prepared me in ways of being structured, organized, technically and software skilled, marketing expertise, goal oriented, objectively driven, implementation expert, team building professional, financially focused, profit focused, solid leadership skills and ECONOMICALLY DRIVEN. I personally went through various processes to better familiarize myself with key components to Economically improve conditions in the 24th ward such as: Sitting on the board of a Contract School to understand how they operate. Continuous dialog with principals, teachers and cps workers to understand CPS processes and how they fail or succeed in educating our children. Drafting a preliminary Community Benefits Agreement so that I could understand how to legally bind contractors into including the community in development projects. Developing or attaching myself to highly used construction material (Kitchen Cabinets, Counter Top) to supply to contractors as a means to understanding the industry and building relationships. Becoming a part of the CHA (Chicago Housing Authority) process as it relates to minority contractors, bidding, and their participation in the billions of dollars in contract opportunities spent annually on rehabbing public housing and building new public and senior housing. Taking two years to walk through the process of receiving minority certifications with the City of Chicago as an MBE/WBE firm. Keeping tabs on this HOUSING CRISIS which I personally experienced myself and coming up with solutions on how to keep residents in their homes. Knocking on doors endlessly in the community and hearing the cries of the residents on what they would like to see different and the things they are not satisfied with. Reading book after book and watching videos to understand the history of North Lawndale, 24th Ward to add to my personal and family experience living here. Today I feel honored to have contributed to beautiful affordable housing for many families in the 24th Ward and the City of Chicago. Our apartments have solid wood floors, stainless appliance, 42 Cabinets, ceramic kitchens and baths, central air and a beautiful place the residents can be proud to call home. View The Boyce Group, LLC for photos. Today I feel honored to have employed many in the janitorial industry, construction industry, cabinet manufacturing, security. Today I have mentored and assist many with being entrepreneurs, utilizing SBIF funds, financial assistant, food, clothing and so much more. What I feel is a powerful part of the process is that I dont rely on any government funding to operate. VETRESS BOYCE says....... THINK PROFIT !! All my giving is stemmed from my hard work and dedication. I speak of Economic Development because it brings forth the true power of owning and controlling. Today, I come prepared just as the bible states and in decent order. I come as a candidate skilled and experienced on the business side and political side. I come with the ability and capability to lead the 24th Ward to reflect the 21st Century. Much love, honor and respect Vetress Boyce Candidate for Alderman, 24th Ward
