From the Front Porch at the Farm Saturday August 30, 2013 Our saddle is no longer pretty; it is sitting in the barn even though it is covered it is collecting dust and dirt dabber nest. The kids and grandkids enjoyed riding back in the day. On occasion I could mount up and see what’s left of these sometimes treacherous but wondrous trails on this homestead. I’ve held on to the saddle for years and I know I am growing less and less resilient. Getting back on a horse is out of the question even if it’s is a gentle old mare; it is now harder to bounce if ever I fall. I recall riding with my cousins as a young boy, an old mare /plow horse at my uncle Bill and Aunt Lillie’s homestead north of Muldrow, Oklahoma. As the price of gasoline increases each day a plow horse may come back to realization for plowing homestead gardens. Keeping an old saddle is as traditional as ranchers placing boots on fence post (that is a story for another day). I recommend you don’t ever sell your saddle’ cause life’s a long, long ride but only a blink of an eye compared to eternity. Thought for Today; Never owe another man, always watch where you spit on a windy day, never, use words you don’t understand, never lose your pride and Most of all FIND THE LORD BEFORE YOU NEED HIM. 1 John 5:13-14 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
