Kris Kristofferson was born in Brownsville, Texas in 1936 and earned a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University. After completing his education he joined the United States Army where he earned the rank of Captain. After his tour of duty in West Germany in 1962 he was asked to teach English Literature at the West Point Military Academy but decided to pursue songwriting instead. He has written many hits for artists such as Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and he wrote Me & Bobbie McGee which Janis Joplin took to #1 on the rock side. He has won a Golden Globe for best lead actor for his role in A Star Is Born in 1975 with Barbra Streisand. and he dated and/or was married some of the bigger female names in the entertainment world including Barbra Streisand, Janis Joplin, Joan Baez.and Rita Coolidge just to name a few. With all hes accomplished though he only recorded one #1 himself. It hit the top of the charts in 1973... Kris Kristofferson Why Me Lord...
