From the Late in The Day Dept.: Today is the birthday of Troy Andrews, aka TROMBONE SHORTY. He has deep roots in the New Orleans musical tradition. He is the younger brother of trumpeter James Andrews and grandson of R&B pioneer Jessie Hill. He got his nickname as a six-year-old bandleader. From early roots playing in brass bands, to work as a sideman with the likes of Lenny Kravitz, to appearances in HBO’s “Treme” and at the White House, he has matured into a full-fledged star and leader. His band, Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, tours constantly, defying categorization and bridging genres, bringing joy to fans of all kinds of music. Catch him when you can!!
