From the Pastor’s Pen A Time of Harvest We are in the time of year where farmers are bringing in their harvest from the fields. They have prepared the soil during the winter and spring. They have planted seeds, watered, applied fertilizer, weeded and watch things grow. This is the time of the year that all of the planning and work bears fruit. There is nothing like seeing the fruit of your labor come into being. Spiritual things work the same way. In our individual Christian walk there must be a time of preparation, planting, watering, growing and harvest. Our growth as a Believer is not automatic; it always takes work. We must spend the time preparing our hearts for the Word of God. Ezra 7:10 For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments. We must water, weed and wait for God’s work in our lives. We WILL grow by doing these things. This principle also applies to our Church. As we prepare for our Harvest Sunday and our Great Commission Conference we must realize that the blessings of God do not come just because we schedule a Special Day or a Conference. Brother Spear does not bring revival in his briefcase. Just having missionaries attend our conference does not mean we are fulfilling the Great Commission as a church. We must prepare for our Harvest Sunday. There will much to do in the way of physical preparation necessary. We have already been working in the office to prepare decorations, printed materials and plans. We will pass clipboards today for you to have the opportunity to sign up to help in many different areas. We will need help around the property before the meeting. We will need help with preparation of food, serving food as well as clean-up that Sunday. We also have much spiritual preparation to do before the Harvest Sunday and Great Commission Conference. Nothing eternal will be accomplished without the help of God. Jesus said in John 15:5 “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” We MUST have the help of God in all that we do. We need the Holy Spirit to prepare the hearts of those that we will visit during the outreach. If He does not prepare hearts people will not be receptive to the Gospel message. If the Holy Spirit is not working the preacher will not have power to preach. Without His help there will be no conviction of sin. Without at touch from God we will not see lives transformed. We must begin now to pray and fast. We must prepare our own hearts to receive the Word of God. We must weed the garden of our heart by confessing and forsaking our sin. Ask God to direct you as the clipboards come by today. Get involved in the outreach. Participate in the preparation of the property. Pray! Plan to be at the Church Wide Prayer Meeting on Wednesday, November 6. Men, plan on being at the Men’s All Night Prayer Meeting. Sign-up for the 24 hour prayer chain. Sign-up to fast one day a week for God’s blessing. All of the planning, preparation, planting and watering will lead to a harvest! I am looking forward to seeing what God will do TO us and THROUGH us during the next month. Let’s pray for a harvest of souls. Let’s also prepare for a harvest of souls. John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
