From the Polish website Empik: "SHAMAN": Mazolewski-Gonzalez Quintet/ For Tune Recordings / Warsaw: Wojciech Mazolewski - contemporary Polish jazz star who’s teamed up with the great trumpet player from Texas - Dennis Gonzalez. Their first musical meeting took place in autumn 2010 in Warsaw, and Mazolewski, Pospieszalski, Rogiewicz and Gonzalez began working under the name Mazolewski Trio feat. Dennis Gonzalez. In this particular formation they played on tour and then met in the great Agnieszka Osiecka studio to record the first joint session. Joining the lineup was pianist Joanna Duda, and so was born theMazolewski - Gonzalez Quintet. The recordings made during this session make up this album, "Shaman". The leaders shared compositions in a democratic manner: two songs by Mazolewski, two by Gonzalez and two by... Krzysztof Komeda. The use of compositions by the Polish jazz icon (we, of course, mean the author Rosemary`s Baby) is no accident. Already during the previous tour by Gonzalez’s trio Yells at Eels in Poland they recorded "The Great Bydgoszcz Concert" which was released by the renown record label Ayler Records album, and on which Gonzalez included in his repertoire the Komeda composition “Litania”, which in turn paid tribute to the great Tomasz Stanko album of the same name. The music on "Shaman" is the twenty-first century jazz with a conscious reference to the history of the genre, and the presence of Dennis Gonzalez makes you listen to the band in top form.
