From the TOHONO O’ODHAM LEGISLATIVE BRANCH PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT 2014 Tohono O’odham Nation Mali:na Project This year, the Legislative Branch will be operating the Visitor Center Office and Campsite in Magdalena. The following information is provided for Nation’s members traveling to Mexico. Services/Resources the Mali:na Project Will Provide for Nation’s members Translation Services Facilities: Visitor Center Office and O’odham Campsite Visitor Center Office is located in the Church Plaza Area Dates Open: Sunday, September 29 to Sunday, October 5, 2014 Hours of Operation: Daily from 9:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. O’odham Campsite Dates Open: Sunday, September 29 to Sunday, October 5, 2014 Members using campsite MUST register at the Visitor Center Office prior to set up. Emergency Services in Case of Illness or Injuries Tribal ID is Valid Border Crossing Document for Re-entry into United States The United States Customs and Border Protection has confirmed that Native American United States citizens “may continue to present their current tribal documents . . . as proof of identity and citizenship” when entering the U.S. by land. Children without a valid tribal ID must present a birth certificate. Please note that as part of USCBP’s inspections process, you may be questioned to determine if a member of the tribe was born in the United States. Additionally, officers may send a person/vehicle to secondary as part of the inspections process. Vehicles Mali:na is within the Free Zone, therefore a Vehicle Permit is not necessary going into Mexico. Purchasing Mexican vehicle insurance is encouraged. U.S. vehicle insurance is invalid in Mexico. There is a $4.50 (approximate) toll fee for vehicles entering or exiting via the Mariposa Port of Entry.
