From the comments: Key is an appalling prime minister - presented as an honest John man of the people, - those trapped in poverty has almost doubled since he took office. Septembers election is one of the most important in New Zealands history. Do we sleep walk into letting Key sign over our sovereignty to US trans-national corporations? He has already allowed Warner Brothers to change our employment laws, He made it illegal to protest at sea at the behest of Texan oil company Anardarko. If we make him PM for another term we will start to learn the reasons why hes become Obamas favourite golfing caddy as pharmac begins to be undermined in order to let the American corporates in - and that is only the tip of the iceberg re the TPPA. We are still without local democracy in Canterbury as the Key appointed regime continues to dish out water permits under urgency. The democratic deficit in NZ has become frightening. But dont expect the Herald or Fairfax to take the government to task over any of this - they are also representing the interests of an elite hegemony. As for the deficit/surplus discourse - forget that. Anyone can run a surplus if they cut back on essential government services. The important issue is our national debt - this has ballooned under national but that fact is silent in the corporate media. And to all of those people whinging about 40% tax rates on top earners - if that occurs we will still have one of the LOWEST rates in the OECD. And mirroring such a low tax intake we have the 2nd highest youth suicide rate in the OECD and one of the highest rates of child poverty.
