From the desk of Shauna Lee, General Manager What a busy month June is proving to be! It seems that as soon as you cross May off of your calendar, the whirlwind hits you and it’s off to the races. Shows are bigger, ships are fuller and the entire town is abuzz with activity. Here at The Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show we are working hard to prepare for the 2014 Alaska IRONJACK Championships. This evening we are having a “mini” IRONJACK for our buckwheaters to determine who will win the right to compete against the big guns on July 4th. Since the weather has finally started cooperating we are having a company barbecue so all the staff will be here to cheer on our young athletes. I wish them all the best of luck – the competition should be fierce! The 13th season of the Ketchikan Coho Logrolling team began last week and the pond was filled to overflowing with young rollers eager to get back on top of the logs. It’s a good little team this year with bright young athletes showing a lot of potential. The new lumberjacks are enjoying being coaches finally, instead of being coached! Before you know it the Coho Championships will be here and we’ll be welcoming the community in to cheer them all on – YO HO!
