From the nomination: Russell Wilson is a standout on the field and in the community. Russell makes weekly visits to Seattle Children’s Hospital to visit patients; formed the Why Not You Foundation and launched the Pass the Peace initiative to raise money and awareness for the National Domestic Violence Hotline; represented the Seahawks at the ESPYs and Kids’ Choice Awards; hosted more than 3,000 youth at eight football camps in seven different cities across the United States and Canada; represented the Seahawks at The White House Correspondents’ Dinner; hosted a dozen Make-A-Wish kids, as their wish. In all, Wilson made more than 75 appearances in 2014, including over 30 visits to Children’s Hospital. During one of his hospital visits he met young girl named Allison Christensen, who has a rare heart condition. There was bond between the two that has extended beyond the hospital. After the warm reception the quarterback got for displaying her hand-made wallet, requests for wallets led to Allison opening her own shop on the website, Etsy. Every cent helps her mother pay for medical expenses. Wilson is a player who gives his teammates and coaches everything he has every time he steps on the field; and as a member of this community, gives back every chance he gets.
