From the parish house at St. Joseph of the Valley Catholic Church, in rural Leavenworth County, then pastor, Rev. Andrew Grootaers, witnessed the total destruction by a 1930 twin tornado of the second church to be constructed on the site. After building a brick church to replace it, two years later, it burned down. The rectory, scheduled to be torn down soon is due south of the fourth church. The parish celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2013. Pictured here is the rectory, Rev. Grootaers, and St. Joseph of the Valley Church as it appears today.
