From the perspective of human psychology its bad enough that Abrahamic religion externalizes guilt and hate, but what makes it so evil in my mind is that it also externalizes human love and patches it onto the worst objectification possible. That objectification is everything we fear about ourselves and what we hate about ourselves. We even see it in such a light when we tell others that they have a God complex, yet it latches onto those ideas the concept of love and then forces you to bow to the worst possible qualities of humankind and worship it. Its such a sick, twisted narcissistic fantasy and its eating away at our humanity bit by bit until we forget what love and compassion mean and we find ourselves excusing the most horrible atrocities and acts of bigotry toward fellow human beings because we dont want to admit what we have done in the name of this God we made in our image. The thing is that we have outgrown the projections of our ancestors for whom this God was made. We are trying to combine a modern sense of very human decency with one that is thousands of years past its time and we wonder why this world cant move on. Its not about forgetting our past and rejecting our heritage, it is about remembering who we are and where we have been and why we need to let go of the past and the nostalgic feelings for these beliefs and move on. Its time to grow up as a species or fade away into the history some of us are desperately clinging to at the cost of everyones future. -Timothy Havener
