From todays devotion: As another year remains relatively new and as another day dawns, we too find ourselves preoccupied with our tasks and schedules. We will pass many wondrous things, our eyes seeing but not noticing many of them at all. So focused on our daily march we fail to lift up our eyes and see all with which the Lord surrounds us. Lift up my eyes to the hills, urges the psalmist (Psalm 121:1) Then he asks, where does my help come from? For the challenges of another week soon to begin and for all the days of this new year, from where does our help come? Perhaps youve heard about Jesus and so you dont think you really need to join in studying His words. After all, the stories are always the same. The conclusion never changes-He dies on a cross! Our eyes have stopped seeing and our ears have stopped hearing the wonderful things of Gods Word. In a world very short on love we will discover in His Word the most extraordinary love ever offered. Imbedded in His Word, page after page, is that account of His love, shared in a thousand ways with people who do not deserve to be loved. Those people are just as we are, a people needing love living in a world needing love. We, too, prove unfaithful, prideful, and selfish. We, too, fall short of fulfilling our responsibilities. We, too, fail to see the opportunities to share Gods love with others. Yet God still pours out His love to us through His Son Jesus Christ. Yes, He who is born in a manger for us dies on a cross, but then He is raised to a new life. And all this is for us. What an amazing and wonderful thing the Lord does for us! His Word tells us all about His never-ending love for all persons. PRAYER: Heavenly Father, wonderful are Your works. Again this day the sun rises and You present us with a new day of life and living. Bless all that we seek to accomplish to the glory of Your name. By Your Spirit bestow upon us a sense of Your eternal love for us given through Jesus Christ our Savior. Watch over our families and bless our homes. Guard and protect all those who work to guard and protect us within our community. In Christs name we pray this. Amen. (Sign up for daily devotions at clcs.org/ )
