From todays satsang : Today, we have amongst us a very special guest from Japan: His Excellency Mr. Hakubun Shimomura - Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. We are also joined today by: Sri Abhaychandra Jain - Honorable Minister for Sports, Youth Services & Fisheries Govt. Of Karnataka, India; Sachidananda Swami - Former Member of Parliament, India; Justice Rama Jois - Former Governer of Jharkhand & Bihar States, India; Justice Venkatachaliah - Former Chief Justice of India. Arun Madhavan felicitates Former Chief Justice of India. Mahesh Gupta ji felicitates Rama Jois. A L Rao felicitates Swami Sachidananda. Mr. Hakubun Shimomura speaks in Japanese: It is a great privilege for me to be here and meet Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji. I have been trying the breathing yoga for the last two years although I am not good at it. I also had the opportunity of meeting Guruji when he visited Japan. He is very well known and famous in Japan. With the blessings of Guruji and with the cooperation of the people of Art of Living, I would like to take the leadership to bring more and more peace in the World. Sri Sri: When you consider the whole World as one family, Japan is our first room. The Japanese culture and Indian culture have a very strong relationship. There is a natural bonding between India and Japan. Earlier when we were discussing, Justice Venkatachaliah explained how education needs to be uplifted. World over when the crime is rising, people are looking towards to the East. Peaceful coexistence is what we need to teach people. I remember an incident that happened in Japan. When President Nixon visited Japan, on one side was seated a Shinto priest and on his other side a Buddhist priest was seated. President Nixon asked the Shinto priest, How many people follow Shintoism? The Shinto priest said 80%. Then he looked to the other side and President Nixon asked the Buddhist priest, How many people follow Buddhism? The Buddhist priest said 80%. How is that possible, the President wondered. The Shinto priest and Buddhist priest looked at each other and smiled. Even here in India, Jains and Sikhs live together in such harmony. We have to get this message across to the whole World. Why do we need so much security? There is intolerance and stress. To eliminate stress, we need meditation and breathing exercises. Cultural and ethical values need to be encouraged. I am glad this is coming up in more than one way. Japan is one of those countries which has a great message to give to the World about teamwork and perfection in whatever they do. In todays times when a game is fought like war and a war is fought like a game, the Japanese football team came in news for cleaning the whole stadium before leaving. The way the Japanese conducted themselves when Tsunami hit has offered India and the rest of the world a lot to learn. Similarly, India has a lot to offer, such as knowledge of Ayurveda and food. D K Hari and Hema Hari have put together some information about the connection between the two countries in just 24 hours. We request Justice Rama Jois to launch this book. Sri Sri: You know Japan means purity. Here in every home they do Japa (rosary) to purify the mind. The chanting that we do is called Japa. That is a prelude to meditation. We welcome you here to come again and again and we welcome Japanese students to visit India. We would like to have a chair for Shinto studies here in India. All the research scholars should do more work. There must be a deep connection. Shri Nageshwar Rao, chairman of GMR group felicitates Gurudev.
