From what I see from the boards, Bardic/freeboot will work on any weapon like spell. It must have an attack and do hit point damage. It will not work on drain etc such as this post: Note that Weapon Specialization (ray) only adds to hit point damage caused by a ray attack that would normally deal hit point damage; it doesnt increase ability score damage or drain (such as the Dexterity drain from polar ray), penalties to ability scores (such as from ray of enfeeblement) or drain, negative levels (such as from enervation), or other damage or penalties from rays. —Sean K Reynolds, 10/23/10 Ray of enfeeblement for instance, would get +to hit, but would NOT get +to strength damage drain. This is what James said at the table, from seeing developer posts I agree.
