From yesterdays amNew York newspaper (it was the cover story) - subway service is getting worse and worse, in terms of late trains, due to mechanical work, overcrowding, etc. - and our own A train here is listed as one of the five worst lines in terms of increasing percentages of late trains. Not good. NOT ONLY is this proof that we need the ferry as a viable alternative to the overcrowded, uncomfortable and increasingly unreliable subway system - but in the event that the ferry IS shut down because the city chooses not to renew the funding, where do The Powers That Be think the thousands of people who use it every week (-- AT LEAST 4,000, even by EDCs own figures, which I think are out of date and do not accurately reflect the growth in ridership) -- are going to go? ANSWER: most will have to take the subway -- which will only make the overcrowding and on-time performance problems for the A line EVEN WORSE. amny/transit/subway-delays-up-on-most-mta-lines-over-last-year-1.9379840 .
