From your National Judges Rep, Ron Kopas... 10 things to know about the Upcoming Changes to the Pre-Competitive Program: 1) We are developing 2-3 levels of standardized events. We will begin with 2 routines for pre-competitive athletes and 1 routine for Level C athletes. 2) The program is in the pilot testing stage. Full national implementation is expected for the Fall of 2015. 3) The events that are being pilot tested this 2014-15 season are: -- Basic March (1 and 2) -- Forward Motion (1 and 2) -- Pre Medley (1 and 2) -- Mini Solo (1 and 2) -- Pre 2Baton (1 and 2) 4) All provinces are participating in the Pilot Test this season, in one way or another. 5) Judges are expected to be very familiar with the content of the new events prior to judging at an Open Competition. Video examples of the routines are available on the CBTF website under the Resources tab. https://youtube/playlist?list=PLL7L4X0cFxYtD2KVAOZOLWMN9s_9u50dh 6) Since this is the Pilot Test season, there are no changes to the score sheets (e.g., the standard Basic March score sheet will be used for both Basic 1 and Basic 2). 7) Judges will continue to apply the Pre-Event Grading Standard for each event. The range descriptions for the various pre competitive events can be found on the CBTF website (see, Programs | Judges | Tools): cbtf.ca/article/pre-competitive-event-range-descriptions 8) Because the first level of each event (e.g., Basic 1, Forward Motion 1) is easier than the current standard routine, athletes should be better positioned to execute a clean, technically correct routine. As such, their grades should reflect this. Grades are based on correctness and proficiency! 9) The currently-approved Pre Competitive events may still be offered this season. (i.e, Pre Solo/Bronze Pin remains the current official pre-solo). There have been no changes to the assessment of these events. 10) Pre Medley 2, which involves Sections 1 and 2 of Medley, may be performed as a Level C Medley at the coach’s discretion.
