Front page of the London Free Press on Friday details the potential hardship to individuals of eliminating “grow your own “ medical marijuana production. The concern is that the unemployed, or those on welfare or disabled, won’t be able to afford their marijuana from licensed producers. Call me cynical, but I would be curious to see the correlation between those needing medical marijuana who are unemployed, on welfare or disabled, versus the remaining users of medical marijuana that continue to have a job, pay taxes and generally make a positive contribution to society. Obviously there are plenty of legitimate medical issues for which marijuana can be useful in the treatment of. But when Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq says the number of medical marijuana users is growing “exponentially” my first thought was “you think?” I have to assume the majority of the unemployed, on welfare or disabled are also living in rental accommodations. Bet the landlords are happy to find their properties severely devalued after being used as a “grow-op,” legal or otherwise.
