It was performed as a prayer for household safety and a good harvest. In Edo (Old Tokyo) Shishimai has become the main style that has been exported from Japan due to its dance complexity and intricate musicality. The lion bites the heads of some watchers, to bring luck by eating the bad luck. This workshop will be an introduction to the Shinobue part of the Wakayama Ryu school version of shishimai which is taught by Kyosuke Suzuki Sensei. It will be best to use 6hon but if the majority have 8 we will use 8 hon.
