Full story of HAAL (Haal) Pulwama, Aug 20: Tension gripped this south Kashmir village when some youth allegedly pelted stones on the quarters of Kashmiri Pandits. Reports said that administration demolished a few huts of Muslims living in the area following which youth took to the streets and pelted stones. The Pandits packed their luggage and were ready to leave but due to the intervention of administration they changed their decision. Incident The Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Monday visited the Pandit colony at Haal Pulwama. The Pandits apprised him about their day to day problems, sources said. “The DC after meeting Pandits ordered demolition of some residential structures of locals outside the colony. The locals felt that the DC was provoked by the Pandits to demolish their structures,” they added. “Soon Police and CRPF men were deployed in the area. However the situation remained tense for the entire night” they added. The Pandits packed their bags this morning claiming that they were not safe in the quarters. Soon the Minister for Revenue Aijaz Ahmad Khan visited the quarters and assured them that they would be provided all the possible facilities. The Pandits were pacified and stopped from leaving the place. Pandits, according to the sources, apprised the minister and other officials about problems related to electricity, ration, water etc. “Pandits alleged that since the day they have returned authorities have not paid any heed towards the problems being faced by them that is why they had decided to shift,” sources added. Residents who were protesting against the administration were assured that they will be given the compensation and other land, after which they called off their protests. An eight member committee was constituted in the colony to inform the administration about all problems in future. “Actually the DC first entered into the Pandit colony and then directly ordered his machinery to demolish the structures. We felt that the Pandits may have provoked the officer,” the residents said. “We are very sorry for pelting stones. We usually help them every time as they are our brothers but it was only the confusion which created the problem” they said. While talking to Greater Kashmir, the DC relief Muhammad Ashraf said, “We came here only to encourage the Pandits. They only apprised us about their day to day problems.” The SSP Pulwama, Amit Kumar said that the situation was normal and issue has been sorted out. Police stop Hurriyat (M) delegation Meanwhile a Hurriyat (M) spokesman said that a high level delegation of Hurriyat including Javaid Ahmad Mir and Hakim Abdul Rashid were prevented by Police to visit Haal and Shopian. “They were intercepted by Police near Arihal and detained,” he said, He described Kashmiri Pandits as an inalienable part of the Kashmiri society and urged the majority community to protect their lives and properties. The spokesman strongly condemned the stone pelting on the quarters of Kashmiri Pandits.
