Fun Fact of the Day: The flightless cormorant is unusual among cormorants because it cant fly. However, like all other cormorants, after it takes a plunge into the water to grab prey, the flightless cormorant has to spread its wings out to dry out its feathers in the sun, just like laundry on a clothesline. Thats because feathers on cormorants are not waterproof and cormorants produce very little oil from their preen gland.
