Funding for the National School Chaplaincy and Student Welfare - TopicsExpress

Funding for the National School Chaplaincy and Student Welfare Program ends in December this year, to be replaced by the National School Chaplaincy Program, with $243million budgeted over four years. The big difference? Secular youth workers and counsellors will no longer be funded under the program, meaning as of next year, schools will only be able to apply for funding for chaplains. WACSSO President Kylie Catto spoke to ABC Canberra about the issue yesterday and is quoted in the story below. We think removing this funding is an inappropriate move by government, and that schools should have a choice as to who they employ in pastoral care. This decision gives the wrong message about the services that chaplains and student welfare workers provide in schools. Kylie Catto will be speaking to John McGlue on ABC Drive this afternoon after 3:10pm https://au.news.yahoo/a/23539652/budget-2014-funding-for-secular-counsellors-cut-in-school-chaplaincy-program/?source=wan
