Funny that I had a memory blurb tonight... Years ago, when I was pretty gullible, and naive, Jim and Earl asked me if I wanted to go to town with them to pick up a part or something...I was all in and got to make a road trip to town! When you lived as far out in the country as we did, that was a treat, and Jim even offered to buy my lunch...double treat, because he didnt offer that very often either! We wound up stopping a Fred Shorts Grocery store in Fagus. Im thinking, why are we stopping here...this isnt a restaurant! We enter the establishment, and they grab them some potted meat, vienna sausages and crackers, then Jim turns to me, and says, Little lady, you can have anything you want, Im buying! I was furious, and they knew it. What I knew was neither one could stand any kind of canned fish. I grabbed 2 cans of sardines, and a soda. They were too busy talking and laughing about how they Got me good that time to realize what I had picked up! We get back in the truck, and head on up the road. They both grab their potted meat, and sausages and start eating. Im sitting in the middle of that old truck, and I reach in to grab my mustard packed sardines pop that can open with that little key, and the smell hit them! Now, if youve never eaten a sardine, they do require an aquired taste, and smell. Yep, I sat there and licked the mustard off those headless shinners then proceeded to drop them down my throat, and smacked and licked my lips like a purring cat! They, on the other hand, were gagging, and rolling their windows down...and that smell doesnt just go away! Guess who got the last laugh! ;)
