Diabetic Retinopathy is a disease is caused by changes in retinal blood vessels due to prolonged high blood sugar associated with diabetes that can result in severe damage to various structures in the eye. According to the American Diabetes Association, roughly 30 million Americans have diabetes and millions more are pre-diabetic. 4. Macular Degeneration is leading cause of blindness caused by damage to the macula area of the retina that perceives light. Risk factors include: age, smoking, female gender, and family history. Treatments can slow the progression of the disease but there is no cure. Regular eye doctor visits can detect symptoms early enough to begin medical intervention. 5. Refractive Errors are the bending of light as it passes through one object to another: According to the National Eye Institute, refractive errors are the most common cause of vision problems that can be the result of the length of the eyeball, changes in the shape of the cornea or natural aging of the lens. Nearsightedness, farsightedness, presbyopia and astigmatism are results of refractive errors. 6. Glaucoma causes damage to the eyes optic nerve and worsens over time. This condition has few or no initial symptoms and is often associated with a higher-than-normal pressure inside the eye, but can also occur under normal intraocular conditions. If left untreated, glaucoma can cause peripheral vision loss and can eventually lead to blindness. Treatment options include surgery, lasers or medicated eye drops
