Further progress on $380,000 Wallabadah water supply upgrade - Liverpool Plains Shire Council’s Technical Services Committee has received a report from Water Services Manager, Rod Batterham, on the progress of the $380,000 Wallabadah Water Supply upgrade. Mr Batterham told the committee good progress has been made on the pipeline component with all straight pipe now laid between the bore site and the existing eastern reservoir compound. “A unique feature of the reservoir end of the pipeline was the installation of several bulkhead structures designed to restrain the bedding material from displacement during the lifetime of the pipeline that were required due to the steep grade the pipeline is laid along,” Mr Batterham said. “With the completion of all rising main pipe lengths the following works are in progress; construction of switchboard and instrument housing and slabs, erosion protection works at various gullies and pipeline scour points, obtaining pump and riser pipe for installation and finalisation pipe fitting installations at bore and reservoir ends,” he continued. Chair of Council’s Technical Services Committee, Councillor Rob Webster said water levels in the existing well at Wallabadah are hovering at levels requiring the maintenance of current water restrictions. He said it is expected that no severe degradation of water supply will occur prior to the commissioning of the upgraded system. “A review of environmental factors was prepared prior to commencement of this project and required mitigations have been applied on site,” he said. “Reports indicate the new bore has more yield than the old one and that the water obtained is softer. This project is an important part of LPSC’s community plan to provide safe, effective and resource efficient reticulated water supplies in townships and villages within the Shire. Council is undertaking the construction utilising its own workforce and plant,” Councillor Webster concluded.
