Further severe weather warning & support To all Northland - TopicsExpress

Further severe weather warning & support To all Northland members The Severe Weather Warning has been extended. The Severe Weather Warning for heavy rain and wind over parts of Northland and Auckland continues, especially for areas already sodden. A broad trough and an associated front over the Tasman Sea are forecast to approach New Zealand late today and then gradually cross the country during tomorrow and Saturday. It is expected to bring close to 100mm of rain in some northern and eastern areas, particularly north of the Bay of Islands. Northeast gales with gusts of 90-110 km/hr are expected in exposed places today and during Friday, but may rise to 100 to 120 km/h in exposed places Friday afternoon or evening. Please be careful when checking stock and treat all wires as live and keep clear of fallen trees. Advice Due to power outages farmers who don’t have generators are unable to milk. This does not mean you feed your cattle less. They will recover better if you continue to feed them as if they were being milked. With flooding the effects can be devastating on a farm business, with stock losses, power outages, slips, bridges washed away, and silt covered pastures requiring re-grassing. So please contact your insurance companies as soon as possible. This will help you recover faster and give the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) a better idea of how wide spread the damage is. If people have problems please contact the Rural Support Trust on 0800 787 254. They will be able to deliver advice and counselling services, and will be communicating to MPI on whether there needs to be any further action taken. So the more they know the better picture they can paint. Check DairyNZ’s website for helpful advice on what to do in the event of a flood, storm, power outage, managing stressed people and stock, missed milking’s and disposal, as well as a crisis priority checklist. dairynz.co.nz/news/latest-news/northland-severe-storm-advice/
