Future 2nd generation vocalist of The Air Supply, now that Russel Hitchcock could no longer hit the original high notes. I guess Arnel Pineda started the trend of Pinoy vocal talents as replacement vocalists. So many good singers in the Philippines and still we are yet to see one whos going to be an international hit. Why is that? I suspect because we never have our own local genre of music that is acceptable for radio airplay, or do we even have one we can genuinely call our own? Our Tinikling that we call our folk dance is of hispanic origin. Carribeans have their reggae, Mexicans got their cumbia, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, and Colombians rivaled on the salsa, Bazilians their samba, Argentinians the tango, the afro-americans the hiphop, and we Filipinos can dance on all these beats. But we never have our own beat. The moro kulintang is of malaysian origin and even the caroling badjaos that we call lumad stole that drum beat style from Africa. But I like that caroling badjao percussionist with DJ synthesizer vocal effects. He would surely get good money from me if I see him in the streets when I get home this Christmas season.
