G T Raj: August 19, 2013 at 12:34 am (Quote) Singaporeans of early years have been brought up with fear inherent in them because of the fear of losing their livelihood or even their promotions if they speak up. That have kept many from politics and as such many talents that we have did not come to the fore. Sad as it may be when we see the cuurent crop of Ministers and MPs. Many would have performed better if the system is open to accept constructive criticism and do what is good for the greater good of the Nation. Prof Paul Thambyah and Ravi – a good doctor and lawyer combination are the new breed of Singaporeans who dare to challenge the status quo and this are the very same people we need if we are to make changes and work for the greater good of the Nation. A system that has stymied from speaking up is a backward system. In each and every one of us there is a latent talent and if these were brought to the fore for many Singaporeans who have birth roots here we are on the verge of developing a more gracious and forward looking Nation. The comments from Dr Paul Thambyah is well received and the inciteful comments of National Service and how it brings the oneness in being Singaporean is the key to one of the fundamental aspects of Nation building. My only hope is not to give any favours to any Ministers and MPs children and that they must rough it up as an ordinary citizen to know the true meaning of being a One Singaporean and help each and every one in spirit so that the Nation can forge ahead. There is a saying that problems and obstacles to progress are man made and if you remove them the true spirit of being Singaporean will show up. As quoted by the Prime Minister from one of our founding father’s the late Mr S Rajaretnam we should show in deeds and not in words. Let the likes of Dr Paul Thmbyah and Mr Ravi be the impetus for more professionals to come forward and have a more vibrant and forceful candidates which the Opposition Parties can convince to stand with them and together make the Singapore of tomorrow even better. We cannot stay put and neither can we hear only one side of the story. We have build the foundation earlier and today lattitude of thoughts and views and ideas are important hallmarks of the future Singapore. Let us have more of these lively articles such as what Dr Paul Thmyah delivered and may the dawn of 2016 see a fresh resurgance of constructive thoughts to make a better and more open Singapore with all avenues laid for people to come forward and to assure that measures are taken that what we have colectively build we must never destroy. We built on our strength for a new Singapore and that means a more gracious and open society and importantly acting responsibly for the greater good of Singapore now and for the future.
