GALLANT WALK A struggle fought, A struggle won. Gallant men and women sacrificed their precious lives for the benefit of us, The now generation. They defied all odds and conquered white domination, Beaten they were, Tied anywhere, With chains and wire, Blood was shed, They cried anyhow, But traded for slaves they were anyway. As though that wasn’t enough, they scattered and hibernated in bushes, afraid they were, but the cause they fought for was greater than anyone would imagine. Their indomitable spirits saw them through, A struggle fought, A struggle won. Mwabombeni Tata Kaunda, Mama Kankasa And many of you who vigorously fought but are no more, We say zikomo. A’Kapwepwe Mama Betty Kaunda, Harry Mwanga Nkumbula. You sacrificed your lives, Your professions, Your families and many other great things you would have done, You said halt to your personal needs, Just to set mother Zambia free. We happily say mwabombeni, We wish we can repay you, But we pray that God abundantly rewards you. To you tribe never counted, Religious affiliation was not a barrier, Education background wasn’t a matter of discussion. You fought together as Ubuntu!! Yes!! Ubuntu the spirit of pure Africanism. Like the “Bantu Botatwe, you moved in one accord. Oh!!!! Great Kenny, a simple teacher born of a preacher but a leader, With great vision and deep passion Together with your comrades You stood up, proud and free for our beautiful mother Zambia, As a real Zambian would be. You fought for our rights, our freedom, It was tooth and nail…. Cha-cha-cha-cha-cha!!! You shouted!! With your great leadership skills, unshaken sense of unity, You unified 72tribes, And you taught us all to be one, One!! as Zambia is. You encouraged inter-marriages. Making that beautiful Lozi woman, readily available for that Ngoni man!! A Tumbuka for a Tonga, A Kaonde for a Mambwe, And a Bemba for a Kunda Oh!! Great heroes, sons of our land For fifty years we have enjoyed this, we have enjoyed peace. No country since our independence hosted Zambian refugees. How can we repay you our heroes? At the risk of your own country, you helped our neighbor’s struggle from the white supremacy. Zambia became the hub for peace, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zaire now the democratic republic of Congo enjoyed and still enjoys the great hospitality that we the Zambians share, Tata Kaunda, together with your comrades You led a great exemplary life style, Simple, yet unique, Friendly, yet firm, Frank, yet reasonable. How can we repay you? Tata Kapwepwe, Mama Betty Kaunda and Tata harry Mwanga Nkumbula We know you always smile when you look at us from up above. Especially now that we are celebrating 50 years of peace, 50years of freedom, 50years of happiness, 50years of unity. A struggle Fought, a struggle won. We will always remember you; we’ll share your stories, We will teach our children of your great efforts and sacrifices for this our only home, beautiful mother Zambia, born from the Zambezi, yes! The pride of our nation. We wish we can repay you, We wish we can describe and express our gratitude to your efforts, But we can only say, Mwabombeni, It was a struggle fought, a struggle won.
