GAMBIA SEVENS: Carloway Football Club started their pre-season preparations with a strong performance in the Gambia Sevens, winning five matches before losing a closely fought final to Point. Carloway were drawn in a tough group but started strongly with a 1-0 victory over Stornoway Athletic, courtesy of a sweet Gus MacIver strike and followed this with a 5-0 win over Lochs, with Fraser MacLeod and Lee Johnson wreaking havoc with the Lochs defence. The group was completed with victories over Tolsta and Back in order to seal a semi-final spot against Sea Angling – this proved to be a hard game but strong performances from Murdo Squegg MacLeod and Cameron Tiger MacArthur provided the foundation for a 3-1 win. The final against Point proved a game too far, however, and a tiring Carloway side lost out 3-2. Overall, a good day for the Club however with particular encouragement coming from the strong performances of youngsters Ross MacIver, Josh Harris and Joe Armstrong.
