**GAME OF THRONES SPOILER ALERT** (Do not read for those who have not seen S.4 / E.8 from this past Sunday yet) I find this last weeks episode of Game of Thrones to be vexing as in I am very vexed (bonus points: what character/actor from what movie said that?). Without getting into the specific episode details, my broader question is: In a Trial by Combat where BOTH combatant-champions (selected to represent the accuser and the accused) somehow manage to be killed, how can the accused be rendered immediately guilty by the Trier of Law? At the very least, wouldnt such result necessitate a re-match since no champion suvived to validate a decision one way or the other for a judgment on the accuseds standing? Help me figure this out, friends. [On a related note, I found this entry in Wiki that: If the defendant was defeated and still alive, he was to be hanged on the spot. However, if he defeated his opponent, or if he were able to fend off his opponent from sunrise to sunset, he would go free. But this speaks specifically to the defendant doing his own combat - not a situation where a champion was used by the defendant, so I suspect the rules for this kind of Trial by Combat may be a bit different.] 25.media.tumblr/323449320d141bd3266f3f4764c3ba6f/tumblr_mzbk8rCrOD1qf80qxo4_r1_250.gif
