GAME OVER FOR CYBER CRIMINAL A Worksop man has been jailed after selling fictitious tickets over the internet for sporting events such as Wimbledon and Royal Ascot. Adam Moxon, of Elms Road, was sentenced to six months imprisonment when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday (Wednesday 26 November 2014). He had pleaded guilty to eight counts of fraud by false representation and one count of theft at an earlier hearing. Between June and July of 2014 the 29-year-old used his own name and twitter account to advertise sets of tickets which he was selling through the Gumtree website. The tickets, for tennis tournament Wimbledon and Royal Ascot, were priced at between £300 and £500 but were non-existent. And when buyers who had parted with their cash failed to receive their tickets they reported Moxon to Action Fraud. On one occasion he replied to a text from a buyer to say: ‘The crime you have fallen victim to is called intellectual theft’. He went on to brag that he was a ‘calculating and intelligent’ thief who had made £3,000 the day before. On another occasion he posted a betting slip with the word ‘sorry’ written on it to the buyer.
