GAME PREVIEW: Brewhouse Spirits (4-8-2) vs. Flames (5-8-1) SERIES BREAKDOWN: The sixth-place Brewhouse Spirits face off against the fifth-place Flames in a TPAHL American Division matchup tonight at Twin Ponds East. Thus far, each team has claimed a victory in the season series – the Spirits won 6-4 back on May 1, and the Flames responded with a 5-1 decision on June 4. TEAM SCOPE: Winless in their last five games (0-3-2), the Spirits have slipped into last place in the American Division. But still, only three points separate the five teams trailing the first-place Bombers with nine games left in the regular season. The Spirits suffered their worst shutout loss in club history last Wednesday – 12-0 to a Storm Kings squad comprised mostly of seldom-used skaters. Three players were ejected, among them Spirits goalie GREG WELSH who received a three-game suspension for fighting at the game’s ugly conclusion. Bombers goalie JONATHAN REIDINGER, who leads the league in every statistical category, will fill in for Welsh on Tuesday. Defensemen BOB DIEHL (team-leading 22 points), DAMIEN DUBIEN and BILL SEUFERT are expected back in the lineup; however, it will remain otherwise depleted due to injuries and player leaves-of-absence. SCOUTING THE FLAMES: The Flames are 3-1-1 in their last five games, a streak that began with last month’s victory over the Spirits. Following that win, they defeated Down East Fabrication (6-4) and the Storm Kings (6-1), lost to the Bombers (12-3), and tied the Kodiaks (3-3). JEFF ARNOLD leads the team with 19 points (13 goals, 6 assists), while COLVIN SMITH has 15 (7 goals, 8 assists). In goal, PETE HAMEL is 5-7-1 in 13 starts (4.38 GAA, .837 Sv%). Defenseman MIKE ROGUSKY subbed for the Spirits last week, becoming the third Flame to do so in recent months (Arnold, Smith).
