GAUTENG DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE POST: DIRECTOR: LEGAL SERVICES REF-05034 Centre: JOHANNESBURG Directorate: CORPORATE MANAGEMENT Salary: R 819 126 – R964 902 (all inclusive remuneration package) REQUIREMENTS: Post Graduate Legal Qualification such as LLB or equivalent, articles served. Minimum of 5 years’ experience at middle management in the public sector and a commercial environment. DUTIES: To render sound legal opinions and advice on legal matters. To ensure that the Department complies with the legislative prescripts that govern the functioning of government departments. To advise the Head of Department on the impact of new legislation to the mandate of the department. To have sound knowledge of the management of contracts. To advise business units on the drafting of new contracts, cancellation of contracts, service level agreements, MOUs, Charters, the handling of disputes and other legal matter as necessary. Management of litigation and the resolution of Legal Disputes which includes representing the Department at Arbitrations, Mediations and in a Court of Law in addition to liaising with outside appointed Legal Professionals. Serve on the departmental governance structures such as BAC to ensure the department complies with the Supply Chain Management processes such as Tender Administration and the relevant legislative and supply chain management policy. Compiling legal briefs to business units, external Legal Consultants, State Attorneys, and Counsel and managing the progress and the inputs received. Responsible for setting performance targets and the performance management of staff NOTES: The appointed candidate is expected to undergo Competency Assessment as well as Security Vetting and obtain top secret security clearance.
