GAZ REPLACEMENTS This article will provide an insight into a wide range of possible Gary Ablett replacements, especially players that may have slipped your mind. SAFETY OPTIONS: Safety options are basically players that score well and have relatively high percentage of ownership. Low risk but important in keeping up with the pack. Nat Fyfe (FRE) Price: $639,300 Average: 121.46 Highest Score: 158 Lowest Score: 76 Strengths: Nats clear strengths stem from his consistency. Nat has scored over the ton every single week but one. What is even more appealing about this is the fact that 7 times he has gone over 120. Has lifted his disposal efficiency and is a tackling machine, which greatly increases his output. Has an amazing run coming up, with 4 of the next 7 games coming against bottom 6 sides. Weaknesses: Not many weaknesses from Nat, but a huge factor in his inclusion in your team is Fremantles resting policy. Ross loves to rest his star players before a finals campaign, which means if you bring Nat in you MUST have sufficient bench cover. Additionally, his next 2 opponents (Giants and St. Kilda), Nat only averages a maximum of 105, with a highest score against the Saints being a measly 82 points. Exercise caution if bringing Nat in at this point of the season. Josh P. Kennedy (SYD) Price: $593,200 Average: 118.40 Highest Score: 153 Lowest Score: 72 Strengths: Much like Fyfe, JPK has been a revelation this season due to his consistency. Previous years he has been a proven performer, but lacked the consistency to warrant a firm selection. This year it is a very different story. Has gone over the ton in all but 2 games and has NEVER gone under 22 disposals so far this season. Has been floating forward and kicking more goals whilst also averaging a stellar 6.7 tackles per game (a stat that adds an extra 20 points to his scores). JPKs tackling has been a strong point of his game, where he has gone into the double figures in 3 games. Very, very appetising option. Weaknesses: JPKs main weakness is his tendency to prefer to handball. In many games this season, he has doubled his kicking stats with handballs, which prevents him from going big in some games. Although this is a weakness, it shouldnt be a huge factor in your decision as most of these handballs are contested possessions which bring in extra points. Another weakness is JPKs disposal efficiency, which has dipped under 52% in 3 of his games. Steve Johnson (GEE) Price: $505,300 Average: 109.69 Highest Score: 150 Lowest Score: 53 Strengths: Stevie J just has a knack for finding the ball. When he is on, he doesnt stop, as proven by the fact that all of the times he has hit the ton he has gone over 110 points, with 4 of these being over 135 points. The fact that Stevie J, in most games, has a kick to handball ratio of approximately 2:1 greatly boosts his points on top of the fact that any of these possessions are clearances or score involvements, as well as the fact that he also averages 5 marks per game. Geelong have Melbourne this week, a side that Stevie J averages a HUGE 170 in his past 3 against them. Is also very cheap, would be a great cash grab if you need to fix other parts of your field. Weaknesses: 2 clear weaknesses stand out in Stevie Js game. The first is the fact that he gives away plenty of free kicks, which deducts 3 points from his total score per free kick against. This is an issue, especially in close games, as Stevie J has a tendency of losing points due to this stat. The second clear weakness is the fact that Stevie J cannot cop a tag. Comes up against Freo in Round 20 where Crowley always goes to him and has restricted him to sub 60 scores in his past 2 games against the Dockers. Also, Geelong resting policy may take a toll on Stevie J. Tom Liberatore (WB) Price: $562,900 Average: 114 Highest Score: 171 Lowest Score: 65 Strengths: Is a contested possession specialist, which is how he gets most of his points. Has 7 scores of 125, and averages 24 disposals. The main part of Libbas game that makes him such a great option is his tackling stats. Averages a HUGE 10 tackles per game, which is effectively an extra 30 points added onto his scores. Never really goes missing as the Bulldogs love him around the stoppages. Weaknesses: Libba cannot cop a tag and also struggles when teammate Ryan Griffen is not in the side. Additionally, Libba does not kick goals and rarely marks the footy which means he relies on his stoppage work and tackling stats for his scores, which can limit him to a certain degree. Has a tough draw coming up with games against Sydney, Hawthorn, and North. RISKY OPTIONS: Rory Sloane (ADE) Price: $567,800 Average: 113.40 Highest Score: 143 Lowest Score: 83 Strengths: Has gone over the ton every week but 2 yet has gone very much under the radar. As Dangerfield attracts the most attention, Rory silently racks up disposals and tackles, doing a lot of the clearance work for the Crows. Has gone over 120 points 7 times throughout the season and only has 6% ownership, although this figure will most probably rise this week. Has 4 upcoming games against bottom 6 sides, and when he is quiet he still scores relatively well, as shown by his lowest score of 83. Weaknesses: As Dangerfield will get rested at some point as he struggles with niggling injuries, Rory will start attracting more attention from opposition players which may quell his scores. Additionally, Rory averages the ton only twice out of his upcoming 7 games, which may put some people off as he may struggle against these upcoming sides. Nick Dal Santo (NM) Price: $541,700 Average: 111.33 Highest Score: 140 Lowest Score: 75 Strengths: NDS has been very good for North this year, mainly due to the fact that he gets plenty of ball as the opposition set their sites on other players like Boomer Harvey and Andrew Swallow. Has also gone over 118 points 7 times this season. Averages a HUGE 27.2 disposals and also gets a lot of points from his marking statistics. His kick to handball ratio is practically equal to one another, which is fantastic for supercoach output. 6 of his 7 upcoming games are against struggling teams in the bottom 8 Weaknesses: NDS has had a couple of games where he has struggled to go over 21 disposals, and this can be attributed much to the influence of having other ball winners in the North midfield with the return of Andrew Swallow and the emergence of Levi Greenwood. These can potentially quell NDSs SuperCoach output and may result in less points. Matt Priddis (WC) Price: $598,000 Average: 111.07 Highest Score: 144 Lowest Score: 67 Strengths: Contested possession specialist. Does all the dirty work for the Eagles midfield and this reflects in his scoring. Has 8 scores of 120 points with these coming from a mix of high disposal counts as well as his solid tackling numbers. Astonishingly, Priddis is only in 2.34% of teams, meaning he could provide your team with a HUGE point of difference as his numbers are very, very good. One thing also that has boosted Matts scores is he is floating more forward and therefore is kicking goals which adds to his output. Has a great run coming up also, with some huge projected scores accompanying this. Weaknesses: Goes missing in some quarters which can ruin his output. For example, Priddis was on 64 at QT last week, and only ended up on 123 points, thats a measly 59 points in 3 quarters of football. Also, Matt loves to handball, with his handballing numbers greatly outweighing his kicking stats which decreases his SuperCoach output. Callan Ward (GWS) Price: $592,400 Average: 114.20 Highest Score: 145 Lowest Score: 48 Strengths: Gone over the ton in every game besides 3, and when he has tonned up Callan has gone huge. 8 scores of 120 means Callan is a proven premium and scorer, with GWS match results not affecting his scores whatsoever. Averages 25.6 disposals and 6.3 tackles with an average disposal efficiency upwards of 80%. This means Callan doesnt need to gather many disposals in order to go big. Spreads across the ground and gathers possessions in defence and forward in addition to the midfield and prefers to kick rather than handball, which increases his SuperCoach output greatly. Weaknesses: Has gone under 19 disposals in 3 games, which means he doesnt necessarily gather plenty of ball week in week out. In addition to this, only averages the ton against 1 of his next 7 opponents which means he could be a bit of a risky option going into the pointy end of the season.
