GENEALOGY PHOTO A DAY - today I was looking through one of the old New South Wales Government Gazettes from 1859, and came across a listing for rations for attendants, and patients. I thought it was interesting so figured Id share it with you today. You just never know what youll find in a Government Gazette, they are full of all sorts of anecdotal information. But in general youll find: - appointees to government positions - appointments of Magistrates and Justices of the Peace - court cases - convicts records (including pardons) - dissolution of business partnerships - estates of deceased persons - insolvency - land for sale - licenses for auctioneers, timber, spirit merchants, brewers, and notices for publicans, confectioners, hawkers & pedlars licensing meetings - medical witnesses at coroners inquests and inquiries held before Justices of the Peace - lists of ministers of religion - petitioners for municipal institutions - police appointments - probate and letters of administration announcements - returning officers - ships deserters - successful tenderers for runs - title deeds ready for delivery - unclaimed letters and so much more. As you can imagine people from all walks of life are likely to appear in here. And then theres all the social history aspect that you can discover too.
