GENESEE COUNTY/Pembroke/Batavia Over 20 larcenies to vehicles in the Towns of Pembroke and Batavia The Genesee County Sheriffs Department has been extra busy this morning and this afternoon taking reports from residents in the Towns of Pembroke and Batavia of larcenies from vehicles during the overnight hours. The vehicles that are being hit are unlocked and targets of opportunity according to Deputy Christopher Parker. Items taken from vehicles on Read, Hartshorn, Pearl street and Wilkinson roads include a large sum of cash, GPS, coins, jewelry, electronics and change. Many residents with dogs say their dogs never barked during the night and no one heard anything. The culprits are believed to be hitting up neighborhoods between the hours of 11p.m. and 2 a.m. Deputy Parker says it only takes seconds to remove items from an unlocked vehicle. Parker believes the suspect(s) are using a vehicle and dropping off and picking up because of the distance between the homes that were hit. As of this afternoon the Sheriffs Department had 12 reported larcenies(2 are felonies) and 10 unreported larcenies. People felt that just because a small amount of change was taken they did not want to file a report. The Sheriffs Department is also investigating a large amount of larcenies from vehicles on Pratt road that occurred last week. The City of Batavia has also had a rash of larcenies to vehicles that began September 26th. More larcenies were also reported this morning in the City. Anyone with information or to report suspicious activity can call the Sheriffs Department at 585-343-5000. For more on this story watch Time Warner Cable News, WHAM, WHEC and WGRZ.
