GENESIS 3:10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. INTERPRETER: Adam was not just covering his literal naked, but was also covering his sin (Job 31:33): The same Adam had been naked since he was formed, and all the while God had been coming to him in the garden, he was naked; but he never hid nor became afraid of God for being naked before him. What then is the difference here? The difference is that he had sinned against God, and his conscience is now tormenting him from within just by drawing closer to the presence of God: He was afraid meaning he had fear, and fear has torment (1 John 4:17-18). Whenever one approaches the presence of God with a hidden sin, and he sees the manifest presence of God, his own conscience will first condemn him and he will try hard to hide or run away from the manifest presence of God. This was how Isaiah used his own mouth to condemn himself because he has seen God’s manifest presence without being worthy and he could not hide from him (Isaiah 6:5). VISION: The closer one is to God the more deadly hidden sin can be: there is something about the presence of God that burns everything called sin or disobedience. No one can remain in his presence with a hidden sin. It is an involuntary reaction, to have one’s heart or lips condemning him if he has hidden sin or impurities while approaching God in his manifest holiness: As it is written, “Be sure your sin will find you out” (Numbers 32:23). Sin finds people out by trying to make them hide from the manifest presence of God: As it is written, “The wicked flee when no man pursues: but the righteous are bold as a lion.” (Proverbs 28:1) We must come out of our hiding, by walking in his righteousness: we walk in light because we do not any darkness for hiding: it is those who still want to hide (sin) or who has something (sin) to hide that still walks in darkness: As it is written, “Proving what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever does make manifest is light.” (Ephesians 5:10-13) HARBINGER: When the Lord comes, he will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.” (1 Corinthians 4:5) INTERPRETER: Adam and his woman hid among trees in the garden from the presence of God: There are three notable trees of darkness among which men still hide from the manifest presence of God: 1. Tree of hypocrisy, pretense, lies and/or falsehood (Matthew 23:25-28): Adam too hid under this tree (Job 31:33); 2. Tree of Excuses – (John 15:22): Man is inexcusable (Romans 2:1), yet man still chose to hide under this tree: Adam too hid under this tree, when he said it was the woman whom God gave him that gave him the forbidden fruit which he ate, but he never used his hand to pluck it directly: Meaning he was indirectly saying it was God who gave him that fruit through giving the woman who gave him the fruit. 3. Tree of Denying – (1 John 1:8-10). God wants to cover every sin, but not by the sinner himself: no sinner can effectively cover his own sin, so he should not try: As it is written, “He that covers his sins shall not prosper: but he who confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy.” (Proverbs 28:13) VISION: God’s way of covering sin include forgiving that sin: no sin is truly covered unless it is truly forgiven by the one who has the right to forgive. Therefore, forgiveness is the genuine covering for sin: As it is written, “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.” (Psalms 32:1) The ways to obtain forgiveness for sin in order to cover it include: 1. Repentance and conversion (Proverbs 28:13, James 5:19-20); 2. Humility (Luke 18:13-14, Psalms 51:17, Isaiah 57:15-18); 3. Love (Luke 7:47, (1 Peter 4:8) Proverbs 10:12) – He who covers sin by God’s way, seeks love (Proverbs 17:9). 4. Fellowship with God and with the Blood of Jesus (1 John 1:6-7, Isaiah 1:8).
