***GENTLE AND EAGER TO PLEASE!!!*** A volunteer writes: A little piece of my heart broke off when I first saw Caramel. I am not sure if it was the smudge of dirt on his broad face, the way his brown eyes gazed up at me, hopeful and trusting, his bare and filthy chest, or his missing patches of fur all over his Eeyore-like body. Later, I learned from a staff member that Caramels patches of missing fur were likely from being burned and I lost another small chunk of my heart. Caramel is always eager to go out with me, and seems as if he may have had some housetraining. He is extremely calm in the presence of other animals, to the point where it appears he might have a comforting effect on other dogs. I so desperately want to do the same for him. I long to smother Caramel in hugs, pets and kisses to make up for the time where he so clearly wasnt receiving any of those things. He accepts my petting, and leans into me, but isnt ready to let go quite yet. He follows me around the pen, but keeps a bit of distance, coming close when I offer him treats. He sits for treats and though he takes them hungrily, he is gentle. After some time, I sit down, and he sits next to me, softly wagging his tail. He presses into me and sniffs my ear. Finally, I get a kiss. My heart is filled with a warm sweet feeling, just like a Caramel. Caramel needs some more TLC, but I promise he will return the favor ten fold. Please come to the Brooklyn Care Center and ask to meet Caramel, our delicious treat.
