GEOGRAFICAL ERROR & THE VEREZEM - GAO! All of u must be aware that the condition of our soil, area N topography affects our mind set. The Hillspeople are different from the Planespeople are different from the Riverine people in their thought processes. From the present day mentality can we reconstruct the past of a community? These questions are yes/no types N cannot b answered with certitude. Let me try. The Zorastrians WORSHIP the white bull, popularly N wrongly called "Varasyaji". Now what does it show, some say white for purity, Bull for virility N reproduction, YA! May be! Zarnak says it was Azarbaijan, some say just above F.A.T.A. whatever may be the truth, one thing can be deduced with reasonable justification that our ancestors lived in hard, clay soil, read on! Many moons ago there lived a group of people, repeat; in hard clay land may be just 8000 persons or so! Sometime later on, they had a fight, instead of killing each other they decided to part ways, & agreed to have the RIVER as their boundary. Those who came below the Indus LATER on came to b known as HINDUS & those that stayed on & moved Northwards LATER on came to be known as Zorastrians! (DEVA is angel for Hindus but Demon for Zorastrians. This to spite the splinter group) BOTH of them till date worship the BULL. But there is a difference The NANDI (Hindu) is of any color, their mandirs will color them in many shades. Not so the VARSYAJI (Zorastrian), this bull has to b TOTALLY WHITE. Not a speck of black anywhere. It is said that God first made the BULL & then everything else, it is His first creation! (To hell with Darwin & Copernicus etc.) What does this show? The Zs were interested in CORN & through centuries of PHENOTYPE (studying the body, N physic) study came to the conclusion that it is the white Breed that has the maximum pulling power! There was no GENOTYPE (study of genes) study in those days! What did the peoples of soft soil, sandy loam, black cotton do? They opted for the RED variety (Red Sindhi, Sahiwal & Gir) this breed gives lot of milk but has little pulling power. The bulls are notoriously lethargic. The white breed (Kankrej, Thari, Panchmahal, Khillari) helps plough tough soil with ease. So then what is Verezem Gao? Verezem means Toiler in the Field & Gao means BULL. Does this white bull go in the fields, NO NO NO he is too precious for such work; what he can do is to service ur cows N produce strong white bulls. This was the first attempt to control the characteristics of the breed that we wanted! (Genetic Engineering???) Corn has more shelf life & helps us tide over the dreary winters. Even today it is not viable to maintain a breeding bull, so the community maintains him. How about the MUSLIMS? Do they worship the bull, certainly NOT. La ilaha, ilalah, No gods but A God. However, there are some exceptions let me give u 2 examples. My man Friday, informed me of a Pathan selling his buffalo, & insisted that i buy it! I went to his 14 acre farm which was close by. He whole heartedly welcomed me ordered a Dudh Patti Chai! When i asked to see the animal he said "Hum Phamily nahi dikhatey" I said i have come to see the buffalo N not ur wife! He laughed & yelled "Aleeah, aleeah" I saw the sugarcane move a little & out comes a massive, young n cute animal hardly able to walk because of Large Udders! Now if a man leaves an animal into his sugarcane field, i ask; is that not Worship? In Punjab i went to a Semen Collection center, the Director Knew Dr. Kharadi (a Parsi responsible for RA Colony in Mumbai, they imitated the model in Landhi -Bhens Colony- which is a big disaster!) He said u r in time to see our PRIZE BUFFALO BULL in action (Bull No.54) i was expecting a young, handsome, large animal, but to my surprise out comes an old, barely able to walk, but very well fed animal. He comes escorted by 4 attendants, patting him, talking to him, stroking him lightly. He comes to the dummy buffalo (they ejaculate in an artificial vagina) n does not do any thing! The director shouts "Madarchod Sulaiman kahan mar gaya" Comes Mr. Sulaiman from the loo running as fast as he can strokes the 54 & puts 2 fingers in his mouth & gives of a shrill whistle! 30 seconds & 54 has done his work. The Director asked my opinion, & i blurted "Straight for the slaughter house, too old for semen donation!" He lost his cool "U Parsis think too much of urselves, do u know anything about this bull? His motality is high & he has improved upon each and every buffalo that we have tried him on! We will continue making straws from his semen, untill he dies. WE HAVE INFORMED The Ministry that his semen is not available for EXPORT -to Sindh, Baluchistan or NWFP-WE WILL MAKE MORE THAN 125000 STRAWS (the maximum no. u can make from 1 bull, this to avoid inbreeding!) IF THEY STOP ME I SHALL RESIGN! His staff agreed to resign with him, in unison. IF THIS IS NOT WORSHIP OF THE BULL WHAT IS? In short, "Dhaage jey paun haeth barkat ahey". Prosperity under the feet of the Bull. The Varezemgao is a an important "ALAT" without which higher ceremonies cannot be performed. Another story for another day. Dareghem Ushta te!
