GERMANY ARE CHAMPIONS! After 2 intense weeks of high thrills and low spills; after 6 exciting high scoring games filled with dramas and conflicts ending with an unprecedented sending-off, the winners are confirmed - none other than the high-flying German team who blew their opponents away with their quick passing high pressing tactics. Scroll down for detailed match results. 4TH MATCH : HOLLAND 0 - SPAIN 3 This was a must win game for Holland if they were to wrestle the World Cup from the high-flying Germans. Their talismanic manager were forced to sit out the first half due a 15 min suspension arising from last week sending off. However, he still made his presence felt by shouting instructions from outside the court. For Spain, their only option was to not to finish last as their inferior goal difference meant that it was quite an impossible task to win the tournament. Despite the setbacks of last week, the team took to the field in good spirit and this week, they welcomed back the missing Kuoog. Without Shawn, the Dutch started very cautiously and didnt press high. This gave Spain the luxury of space and time to pass and build slowly from the back. After dominating possession for largely the first few minutes, Spains Daniel Choong worked his way into the Dutchs penalty and hooked the ball to the top corner for Spains first goal. Spain continued to dominate the match and the Spanish keeper was hardly tested as the first half ended despite a scare when Hollands Daniel Chee glanced a header that hit the post. Second half saw Shawns introduction and Spain braced themselves for a strong backlash from Holland. However, Kuoogs appearance gave Spain the defensive stability and midfield muscle to push forward that was missing last week. With this new found confidence, Spain continued dominating the match as Beh added Spains second and Jong Chiueh scored a third after a nicely work free kick pass from Beh from the edge of the box. The closest Dutch came to scoring was a screamer from Shawn that unfortunately hit the post again, which made it twice for them in this game. 5TH MATCH : HOLLAND 0 - GERMANY 4 The Germans only needed to draw this game to win the tournament, but as usual, they set out to win. The Germans dominated the game from start to finish, although the goals came a bit slow. The Dutchs set-up with 2 backs and a third DM in the form of Shawn, looked a bit slow and pensive in their attacks and hardly troubled the Germans. The Germans, on the other hand, were playing like true Germans, a well-oiled football machine - defending in numbers and once they have back possession, quick thrust attack thru slick inter-passing that left the Dutch floundering. In their defence, the Dutch were feeling the effect of playing 2 games back to back with just 7 players, while the Germans had the luxury of substitution. After a low scoring first half, with Daniel Leong providing the solitary goal, the Germans turned on the power in second half, slicing thru the Dutch tired defence like hot knife through butter, constantly exposing the Dutch keeper one against 2 or even 3 german players. Despite making a few great saves, the Dutch keeper couldnt keep down the score without adequate protection from his defence, and the Dutch ultimately went down 0-4 at the final whistle. 6TH MATCH : GERMANY 1 - SPAIN 2 With the title already in the bag, this game was a dead rubber - Germany was confirmed winner and unless Spain concede 9 goals, they shall be 2nd place. However, this turned out to be the most exciting game of the tournament. Understandably, both teams took the field looking relaxed and easy. Spain scored very early using just 2 passes and 3 players - Keeper threw to a midfield player at the centre circle, who briskly passed to Beh running on the left flank, Beh cut in and slid a low shot underneath the diving keeper - all within 3 seconds. Aside from the diving keeper, the rest of the German team were still rooted at their spot. Even the Spanish team cant believe they scored so fast against the new champions and promptly celebrated happily as though they have won the tournament. The goal steadied the Spanish players and they dominated the match, constantly testing the Germans defence. The Germans overworked defence cracked again as Beh scored with another low shot from off-centre in front of the D. Once the Germans recovered from the 2 goal shock - they were beating everyone easily before this - they found their rhythm again and put the squeeze unto the Spanish. Shots after shots were fired at the Spanishs goal but the keeper was having a crazy day - perhaps due to the loss of blood earlier - stopping all and every shots thrown with almost every part of his body. The defence also played their guts out, helping to block shots after shots, with Aaron single-handedly blocking at least 3-4 direct shots and constantly disrupting the Germans attacks. After Oon pulled a goal back for the Germans, the game took on an even more exciting edge with the Germans pushing even harder and Spain still got 3 minutes to hang on - which felt like an hour in Spanish time. In the last minute, German launched a final attack - 3 prong attack from the right with Oon leading, German shot from outside D, keeper dived and parried, ball fell back to Oon at the edge of the D, keeper was still on the ground, Oon shot at the open goal and.........skied it. The ref blew for full time immediately after that and the Spanish players celebrated a hard fought victory. Dead rubber or not, it was still a nice victory. LAST BUT NOT LEAST - a huge, huge, huge thank you to Henry San for organizing this short tourney. - a similar huge, huge, huge thank you to our calm and friendly referee, Wee Liam, who selflessly sacrificed his time to put himself into a saliva firing line. - our only complaint, let the ball roll la, no grass mah. either that or well start spitting at the ball to make it stick to the ground for kick in :) - finally - a great big round of applause to all participating players for your splendid sportsmanship - Henry can only plan, but you guys make the tourney enjoyable. SEE YOUR AT THE NEXT EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP
