GET ON THE BALL FOR RIO 2014 WITH SILKY SAMBA SKILLS WITH the football World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016, Brazil’s samba beats are set to sound all over the world for many years to come. Now, young people in Middlesbrough are being invited to join a brand new workshop inspired by this exciting and flamboyant music. SambaJam drumming workshops will take place every Monday evening from September 30 during term-time at Middlesbrough Town Hall. Aimed at young people aged 10 to 19, the sessions will bring those samba-licious sounds to the streets of Middlesbrough as the group gear up to an exciting performance at Middlesbrough’s amazing Reindeer Parade and Community Carnival. Workshop leader and samba specialist Tim Coyte said: “Samba music is loads of fun, and the best thing is that anyone can come and give it a go. “These workshops are going to be fun and loud, and will be a great way to make new friends. Also, anyone wanting a taster can join me at Middlesbrough Live this weekend.” Funded by Our Big Gig and Superact, the weekly sessions are £2.50 each, start at 6.30pm and are open to anyone - no drumming experience required and all equipment is provided.
