GILLIAM MEMORIAL MEETING ~ Origination of this meeting came to pass more than sixty years ago, Dennie had a brother by the name of Lawerence Gilliam. Lawerence was a very devoted Christian Soldier. He became ill at an early age and developed cancer of the bowels. At the early age of 19, Lawerence Gilliam son of Rufus and Verna Kelly Gilliam left this world to go to his Heavenly home. Before Lawerence left this world, knowing that his time was short, he made a request of his family, to host a Gilliam Memorial Service each year there after. For more than sixty years his request has been fulfilled and by the Grace of God will continue to be fulfilled by the family. Rufus and Verna Kelly Gilliam continued this meeting as long as they lived and Dennie and his sister Glenna have worked together to continue this meeting to fulfill his wish. Lawerences reasoning for this meeting, and I pray that as time goes on, no one looses sight of his goal, was that his family which may never go to church any other time, may come in rememberance of the family and that they may hear the word of God and of course his desire was that they would give their life to the Lord and join him one day on Heavens Golden Shores. This meeting, Gilliam Memorial Meeting, will be held June 1st @ Beech Grove United Baptise Church. Verna, Dennies mother always set dinner for this meeting and this tradition continues......dinner will be set at the original home place of Rufus and Verna Kelly Gilliam, now the home of Daris and Glenna Gilliam Lewis. Across the little road way from our house. Glenna and her family do the cooking and it is always amazing!! And, there is always, always more to eat than people to eat it.
