GINEBRA COACH, CAGUIOA BELIEVE IMPORT LOWHORN FITS EXACTLY INTO TEAM’S SYSTEM MANILA - Dior Lowhorn is the import Barangay Ginebra San Miguel exactly needs. This is what team superstar and reigning league MVP Mark Caguioa told Solar Sports Desk on the issue surrounding their PBA Governors’ Cup reinforcement of being unfit. The wide-bodied former University of San Francisco wingman has been taking part in Ginebra’s practices and tune-up games. But a few sources told Solar Sports Desk that though Lowhorn may have the shooting touch and the size, he is ‘not a scary import’ and has limited movements. “Malapad siya, may shooting pero baka ‘pag yung mahuhusay na big man defender na bumantay tulad nila Dorian (Pena) at Ali (Peek) baka mahirapan na,” said Carlo Sharma, who already had the chance to guard the 230-lb import in one tune-up game. But for Ginebra’s talismanic leader, Lowhorn gives them more upside than negatives. “He (Lowhorn) is an inside player, we need him. He can rebound. He’s good on the defensive end,” said Caguioa. “I hope we stick with him.” “Dior can score inside and out. Sana hindi na kami magpalit. Baka lalo lang magkagulo,” he added, while counting the days before the coming Governors’ Cup which kicks off on August 14. But for newly appointed Ginebra coach Ato Agustin, Lowhorn just needs to get his conditioning back. “Nakita ko parang wala pa siya sa kundisyon. The way he played sa mga tune-up namin kailangan niyang mag extra conditioning,” Agustin said. “Fit naman siya sa system namin kasi inside player siya. Yun ang kailangan namin at alam ni Dior kung ano trabaho niya at ilalaro niya rito (sa Ginebra),” added the former PBA MVP. But when asked to explain his sub-par performances in Ginebra’s first tune-up games, Lowhorn gave a surprising answer. “I am trying to show more things than scoring. Sometimes I feel I have to do other things but scoring,” said Lowhorn, who once led the last ABL season in scoring with 26.67 points. The former Saigon Heat import believes that Ginebra already has enough firepower for him to focus on scoring. “We have Mark (Caguioa), Chris (Ellis) and the other scorers. We have the best guards and the best players in the league. Everybody in this team is a good scorer,” Lowhorn said. “To me to get 20 points is easy. That’s not the problem. The problem to me is we need to help rebound as a team and make shots too,” he added. “What matters to me is to win. ~ada~
