GLOBAL FOUNDRIES received the Malta Town Board’s approval - TopicsExpress

GLOBAL FOUNDRIES received the Malta Town Board’s approval yesterday to build a second, larger manufacturing facility in the Luther Forest Technology Campus. Congratulations to the Town of Malta and to GLOBALFOUNDRIES for their continued leadership and collaboration to support growth while addressing important traffic and quality of life issues. With this approval, the company could choose to build “Fab 8.2” if increased demand for its computer chips generates the need for an additional production capacity. The project is estimated to cost $14.7 billion and could be up to 575,000 square feet in size and create another 3,700 jobs. By the end of 2014 the existing Fab 8 will have brought an estimated 3,000 jobs, plus several thousand more in construction, to the region. The approval increases our region’s competitiveness among other prospective sites around the world and is an important step toward attracting a second semiconductor fab by GLOBALFOUNDRIES. The decision also continues the incredible momentum and furthers the vision for Tech Valley that state and regional leaders, including CEG, created 15 years ago to develop a world-class semiconductor and other high-tech and advanced manufacturing region here to drive broad economic growth in the 21st century.
