GMA NEWS: JUNE 14, 2013 DFA sees increase in Pinoy tourists to Japan amid relaxation of visa policy Michaela del Callar The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday expects an increase in Filipino visitors to Japan after the country announced that it is relaxing its visa policy for some Southeast Asian countries, like the Philippines, to attract more tourists. “We welcome the decision of the Japanese government to take important steps to further boost tourism between Japan and the countries of Southeast Asia, including the Philippines,” Foreign Affairs spokesman Raul Hernandez told a press briefing. “We expect that the relaxation of visa policies will encourage more Filipinos to travel to Japan and recreate more opportunities for people to people exchange between our two countries.” Japan this week said it is considering waiving visa requirement for Thailand and Malaysia for certain lengths of stay while visitors from Philippines and Vietnam can now apply for multiple entry visa. Visa period for Indonesians, on the other hand, will be extended from the current 15 days. The new policy may be implemented by July, reports said. - VVP, GMA News
